Lupron
Lupron is a gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) and is structurally very similar to GnRH. GnRH is a hormone released from the hypothalamus that controls the release of the LH and FSH from the pituitary gland. These hormones in turn are responsible for stimulating the production of hormones and the development of eggs in the ovary. Administering Lupron inhibits the release of LH and FSH from the pituitary, and thereby inhibits ovarian function. These changes are temporary. Upon discontinuation of Lupron, ovarian function will return.
