Pergonal

Pergonal (chorionic gonadotropin for injection) is a prescription medication containing FSH and LH. Pergonal and hCG are given in a sequential manner for the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory infertile patient when the cause of anovulation is functional and not due to primary ovarian failure (inability of the ovaries to respond to any hormonal stimulation, often due to a postmenopausal condition). Pergonal and hCG may also be used to stimulate the development of multiple follicles in ovulatory patients participating in an IVF program. Pergonal with concomitant hCG is indicated for the stimulation of spermatogenesis (sperm development) in men who have primary or secondary hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (inadequate testicular function). Pergonal is administered intramuscularly.
